International 1066

I have a 1066 that I believe has an air lock in the Hydro system. It ran about two gallons low and now will not move out of its tracks. Front lift works up and down and tilt. Power take off works. No power searing or clutch. What is the best way to get the air out of the system?

Overfill by 4 to 5 gallons. (harms nothing) turn the steering wheel left and right work the hydraulic controls and hitch to work the air out. It can take time. Jim

After overfilling and if I do get the air out, should I take the over fill out?? It won't hurt the steering system to overpower it like that?

It will not. There is a suction tube and Oring in the intake to the hydro pumps. the overfill covers these possible suction faults and does not cause problems if run that way. it is a common cure for suction issues on big frame IH tractors. Jim

No. Leave it overfilled and re-mark the dip stick to the new full level. I own 2 hydros and always keep them more than at factory full level.

OK I will give it a try. I have overfilled it about a gallon already and done all of the things you suggested. It happened one time before and it took me about three months of messing with it, not knowing what I was doing, to get it going. Almost gave up that something terrible had happened to it, started it one day and it almost jumped out from under me. Seemed like it cured its self from the last start till it worked. But....that time I did not over fill it.

If for some reason that doesn't work there is a plug on the back of the MCV at the bottom that takes a 5/8 wrench pull it out start it up but be ready to shut it down when the oil comes.Put the plug back in and happy motorin.

I hate to say it but could also be that the MCV pump is getting weak. My 806 did the same thing last fall, it had always worked fine and then it got cold and i went to move it and no brakes or steering and no go. Tryed removing the 5/8 plug and changed the filter and still nothing, got it in the warm shop and a day later it worked again. Checked pressures for the MCV pump and it was low. Put in a new pump and all was good.

I have a 766 that does the same thing, only when winter comes around though. All summer it's fine. As soon as it gets cold (below 30*) it acts up. Mine will come out of it though after running for 20 min or so. I know it needs a mvc pump. Yours probably does too.

Thanks guys, it worked like a charm. Overfilled about four and a half gallons and cranked it up to around 2000 RPM. Worked the lift and power steering for about five min. and wala!! I'm back in business, and also my old cows thank you, I can now put out hay for them.

Ok, now I have the same problem as caseyc and 806jr did. We have had temps well below freezing for several days and the old girl will not move out of her tracks. Tried to warm her up but did not have the proper heating available. Let it run for a looooooong time and still no stearing or clutch. The bucket hydros works but very jearky and slow. My next question is what is a MCV pump and how costly and difficult is it to replace? And what procedure do you perform to check the pressure to determine if that is truly the problem?
