International 47 baler

Hi Guys,

I was wondering what you thought about IH 47 balers I am looking to buy balers and two of the 47's are available one is a wire. The other is twine with its own Wisconsin engine. I appreciate any comments!

I have a 47 twine tie; got it last year & only used it once. It miss-ties sometimes (I'm told this is fairly common) but plan to keep it as a back-up baler; have a NH 315 bought that I'm hoping to get to Louisiana & pick up next week; I'm told that the NH balers are much more dependable tying. We'll see

Neighbor bought a 37 brand new. Never could get it to tie right. Thought that was the way all balers worked. tie one, miss four. tie two, miss two and so on. Stopped by our place one day when we were baling with the 24-t. Very next day he went out and bought a J.D. No more problems.

IH knotters are touchy to get to work right. I can get JD, NH, and MF ones to work well in a reasonable amount of time. It takes a lot longer to get a mis-tieing IH back to working right. Plus I have found some of the parts are getting hard to get since Fiat bought them. So unless they are just about free I would get NH, JD or MF. They are much easier to keep in working order.

Must be lucky then, our 47 baled 250 bales and only missed when switching balls of twine. my knot was too big.

I have a 47 that I run with a farmall h. If you keep the twine knives sharp and the bill hooks shiny, and don't run her too fast, it bales like there is no tomorrow. baled over 1500 bales with it last year and it only missed when the string ran out....darn it. great way to have to remember to put another ball of twine in. lol

I have one use orange plastic twine works good. just keep twine knifes sharpe and not run to fast keep it full of hay they work good. Keep it screwed down so it will make a good bale. And follow the others add vice.
