INTERNATIONAL DISC?

I just bought a small 3 point disc and i think the sticker on it said international but not sure. I had it apart for painting and noticed it has no roller bearings in the houseing, instead it had grooves on the shaft that matched the houseing similar to a crankshaft bearing but not machined as precise. will these last if kept greased?

If it really is an international, look at the bearing halves. Usually there is a # cast or stamped into the part. You need to grease this type of bearing, till you see grease coming out, about every 4 hrs during use, and before and after each use. Mine only lasted about 50 years or so, before I sold it. These bearings are still available from Shoup or Agrisupply.com. As to your other question about center spacing, the closer the better is the rule. I've seen some discs with a single cultivator tine mounted to erase the uncut line in the middle.

THere's an "International" that markets a line of disc's, mowers, ect, but IS NOT the former International Harvestor. For the most part, they're medium duty "economy" products. They do make a reasonably good mower (bush hog) though.

i bought a new International disc from local indy dealer about 12 years ago...keep bearings greased and it'll last a good long time...i bought this one to replace a Ford disc my grandfather bought in the late 50's...it needed blades and a few bearings so it was cheaper to buy whole new disc.

i keep my front gangs about 1/2" apart at the axles just to keep them from rubbing.

if you don't have grease fittings i'd drill and tap for them while you have it apart. if nothing else pour burnt motor oil on the bearings if you just have a lttle garden to disk say. drill and tape the pieces where they can be gotten to ease especailly the ones on the back gangs. i usually grease the disk before hooking itup and the tractor isn't in the way. also if i'm going to disk some more te next day i go ahead and geease up the night before so i want get nasty the next morning so quick.

Also known as IMCO, but I think they have ceased to exist sometime in the past couple of years. All the dealers that sold their stuff in the Lancaster Farming paper have dumped inventory and don't advertize it anymore.

I have an International 10' Rotary Cutter I bought last summer for clipping weeds in pastures. The dealer told me to contact Hawkline at phone 1-866-291-4295 or address: 200 Front St., Mt. Orab, OH 45154 to obtain an owners manual. I called and they provided me with one. I believe International or whatever they were before changed hands or were bought out by someone along the line. My cutter does have a decal that says INTERNATIONAL on it but in no way has anything to do with the International Harvester Company of yesteryears fame. I believe your disc is probably of the same manufacturer at some point. Hope this helps, Hal.

Dad bought a used disk like you are describing 20 years or so ago. It has the cultivator shank in the middle between the front gangs as you mention. This is a real IHC disc and I believe the serial no. tag is still on the disk. I use it ever few years when working up newly cleared ground to prepare soil for seeding grass for pasture. A very good heavy disk and have always been able to find bearing boxes or what ever breaks or wears out at equipment salvage yards in the area. It has a hydraulic cylinder and transport wheels and tires which can also be used to control depth. I would guess this one is about 10' wide or so and really works up the soil with a couple of passes. These must have been quite common back in the IHC haydays, Hal.

The disc you have was made by the International Machinery Corporation, which went out of business a few years ago. The designs are now being used by HawkLine for their current production, and a separate company called DN Equipment Parts bought out the parts inventory, and sells replacement parts. You can reach them at 877-885-4300, and ask for Brian Brooks. (Not me, but I used to work for DN Equipment.)

Brian, Does your post just address the disc or are all parts from International products just available from DN Equip.? I have one of their 10 foot rotary cutters and have an owners manual from Hawkline which shows the entire parts breakdown for the mower with part no's noted. Where will I need to go to obtain parts for the mower when and if I need some? I'm guessing that since the owners manual has Hawkline noted on the cover they are still producing the mower but don't know about the disc. I ran a copy of your post and put it with my manual. My email is open if you want to respond off the forum, thanks, Hal.

DN Equipment covers all of the machines built by IMC. Plows, Discs, Rotary Cutters, Post Hole Diggers...

They will have everything you need for your rotary cutter, from blades to gear boxes.

I imagine you COULD get parts elsewhere, but these guys have THE inventory from when it was built, and Brian knows exactly what part was used at assembly, so why take chances anywhere else.

Brian, Thanks for getting back to me and I certainly appreciate the information. I will keep the DN Equip. contact information with my owners manual and will call Brian if there is anything I need in the future on the cutter. Your posts were much appreciated by several folks I'm sure, Hal.
