International Tractor

Good morning. My neighbor purchased this International tractor in the Buffalo, NY area. However, he does not know the model to then purchase the manual/parts/etc. I personally do not know anything about mechanics/tractors/etc, but I said I’d help him find out via the web. After some searching on the web, we think it’s a late 1950’s model. We are hoping that you may be able to give us some insight. Unfortunately, the identification numbers have rusted away. Since I can not post pictures via this forum, please do send me a response and I'll then send you the pictures. Thanks!

He bought a tractor and does not know what it is? A lot of new users asking for email responces to their questions...Fishin" for spammers?

Left side of this page, under Galleries, click on Tractor Photos. Check out those under Farmall. Might find one that looks like your neighbor's.

I agree. Could be innocent enough but sounds kinda fishy. Unless there is a mind reader among us, how are you supposed to help someone who has no picture and no info?

Given the 'quality' of most of the other questions asked on here, I would say the poster is legitimate, and should fit right in with the other yuppies, wanna-be farmers, and small time gardeners that frequent this site.

It is a valid question. My neighbor bought an IH tractor and had the same problem. Neither one of us could find a model or serial number on it.

WHAT ON EARTH do you mean it sounds a little fishy? What can this gentleman possibly do to be "fishy"? Are you so paranoid that he is going to send some sort of virus to us all?

You and the above poster and "drizzle and sleet" need to get a LIFE!!

This is a tractor discusson board and this particular one is Tractor Talk. I don't see anything about it being a farmers discussion board or farm talk. I like to read the board about farming items but by no means am I a farmer or want to be. BTDT as a kid. There is a lot that can be learned on this board. I agree it hard to imagine anyone buying a tractor and now knowing what it is but as Forrest Gump said ??it happens.

Ah, Driz - lighten up. We are all ignorant. It is just a matter of time, place, and what subject area. What unique category have you filed yourself under?

I'll forward the pictures.. and by the way, my neighbor is no yuppie... he's a retired mechanic and farmed as a kid before he went into the Army. Just a heads up there. Thanks!

Thanks! We did review a bunch of the pictures, non were exact matches... we think it's a 1959. It's gas (not diesel)... If he was sitting next to me, we would know the details... I think he said it was a straight 4. I sent the pics to 3 responders. Please see when they post them for me.... Thanks!

Man, I'm gettin' real tired of hearing that "yuppie, wanna-be farmer, and small-time gardener" crap. If you don't like the people and types of questions that are brought to our attention, just leave. I don't want to hi-jack this thread. Wish I could help the fellow with the tractor question.

We have pictures.

To Darren; not to sure what year but looks kinda like a 504,used to use one with a loader that looks just like that, with the loader on it was a b#%TCH to get on or off Ken

judging just from the photos I found I'd go with a 340U the exhaust routing out the bottom is inconsistant with the 460 and 240 pics I found in the gallery. However I never score too well in the help identify category.

The serial number plate is suppose to be on the right side of the clutch housing. If missing look at the engine serial number. It should be above the distributor and start out c-123, c-135, or c-153 or something like that. Let us know.

Pretty sure it is a 240. We will know for sure when you get that engine number. BTW guys, he sent me pics and I didn't get a virus

Engine is too short to be a 6 cylinder as found in a 460. Grille is wrong for a 504 or 404. 340 or 240 IMHO.

I'm siding with you on this one. It gets real annoying. I qualify as a small gardener, because I do not know what a yuppie is, and want to be a mechanic not a farmer. As someone said, someone elce's problem is their problem until you make it yours (something elce I learned from you guys) and I not gonna say "just leave then", but just please be more considerate to those of us who for various reasons do not have vast acerages.

Hey RobMD, LOL

Didn't you know the Chinese are tunneling under South America as we speak and will invade the US Through an unsuspecting Farmers Land.

There Just Paranoid.

RobMD,

It's called Email Hack, it was once the domain of jokers, long story short if you get an email from yourself with phone company attachments you might want to do a credit check and credit lock.

Thanks for the kind words, your pal;

Thack!

The whole rear end has 240 written all over it. Most certainly isn't a 460. I had a 240 for a while and it looked just like this one.

I think it's a 240 also. So many things that are similar to my 404 like dash shape, the hex real axle housings, etc.

Man, I'd love to have that loader...

Morning. Went over to the neighbor's with the information you gave me. Above the distributor cab, casted is C-123. Between the Oil filter and distributor is 9-29-D. So based on the information everybody contributed it's a 240 and it's made in '58, correct? Thanks!
