Would someone look at ebay item 400145074592 and tell me how they have the John Deere on the axle of a late styled B.

There was no john deere on the axles of a late b, maybe a early 47, maybe. but anything is possible, so after all heard the song johnny cash wrote about a car he built.

Fairly new to JD (except as a kid) and then they were not 'fixer-uppers' and don't remember much repair work at all.

But (sorry) have always liked the N Fords. Have 4 and still like them. Now have first fixer upper A JD.

But I have a 2N Ford with 9N engine and dash. 2N rear end and different gear speeds than other 2N even with Sherman transmission. Starter button and key are not anywhere near the usual placement. And two hydraulic oil dipsticks. And an empty gauge hole on the dash that shouldn't be there.

Turns out this may be a BN20 that was cobbled together by Ford and hydraulic brakes added for use in naval yards during WWII.

Johnny Cash had the idea but Henry Ford did something like that officially.

If you will notice the post they say thee is a broken, busted bull gear. I've had several B's and never had a broken bursted bull gear. This tells me someone has jury rigged this tractor with other appears older parts. Consequently you now have a junk or parts tractors as they damaged the rear end. Cases on these old tractors are probably somewhat interchangable but that may be it...alignment has ruined the innards. Now you have your parts tractor. His price is about 3 times what it should be...a junker is worth even in our inflated times about $500-600 and the most valuable parts are carb and mag...

It has the correct axles, not sure when they went to square axles but according to the serial number it is right.

220681 would make it a mid 1948 model. Square axles came out at 248290 (About May 1, 1949). I did find pictures taken in the spring of 1946 of a prototype late styled B and it is the same as this one with the lettering on the axles and pressed frame with square seat. This information is in Two-Cylinder Mag. May-June 1998. Pictures are on page 2 and 3. This may be a little gold mine. :lol: Tractor could have been given a new serial number by Deere and sold as used after two years of testing.
Maybe someone with a B register could look and see what information it gives for 220681.

Kemper, these axles should have went away at serial number 200247 with the last styled B. The late styled B would have had round axles but not with John Deere on the back side of them.

JD had a good number of "Experimental" tractors that were put up for sale..
I especially like the 1st experimental that departed from the "Waterloo Boy" concept..almost looks like a "G"..!! Same Waterloo Boy engine, but facing forward instead of to the rear..!

I always liked the way JD disguised what became the "R"...making it look like a Massey Harris tractor..!!

ould you mind posting some close up pictures of the axles, especially where they attach to the case. This is all new to me. There likely would be more than one prototype built. This is where a B production log could help.
What is the casting number on your axle housing? That should tell us if it was carried over from the styled B or not.

Years ago we bought a B with a busted bull gear. It broke because the rear end was full of ice and they started it up and drove it a few feet.
