J D 148 loader

Lift cyl. leaking on my 148 loader, have removed Cyl. and removed snap ring from the bottom. How do I remove the piston? I thought the snap ring holder was threaded, but now not sure.Any help would be appreciated

Been a few years since i had mine apart but if i recall after you remove a flat snap ring you pound part of it back in and then remove a round snap ring from the inside.
But im a little vague on this so i hope somebody else jumps in here.
If i am right and if my memory serves me correct you shouldn't have to pound to hard to push the coller into the cylinder after the snap ring has been removed.
Your new seal kit should also have some instruction's.

You are right- I just did the bucket cylinders on my 148, and that is what they require. Tap the collar in with a punch and hammer to expose the second snap ring. When you get the JD kit, have a diagram printed by the parts guy. Bucket cyl kits are about $50 each.

Both guys were right about an internal round ring. One other thing I have found over the years. Check the internal lip in front of the round ring for a build up of rust or rolled metal. If you clean it up with a small grinder, like a Dremell, the gland will return to you a lot easier. First one I did I could not get the outside snap ring back on until I purchased a snap ring plier.
