put it right on the engine block to fix a manifold leak. filed it down flush. put new gasket on, never leaked, melted or anything. great stuff!
 
There is another old product around that may help you. It's called Marine Tex, available at any boat dealer. I've used it for some "can't be fixed" things, and it works great.
 
Just remember if you have to mix ingredients then its just plastic. no matter what other stuff they put in it.

Have used JB weld for metal and it works good. I 2wouldn't hesitate to try it on a muffler. However, as someone elsse said, Marinetex is just as good. I have patched just about everything with it including gaoline tanks with no problems. Epoxy resins are not plastic and some of them have extreme high heat properties. womt hurt to try.
