I agree with rrlund. There should be a couple of those things in a museum somewhere, but not close to me. The Chinese could probably melt the rest of them down and turn them into something a whole lot more useful.

I have often vondered how a company like JD let the 1010 get oat tha door? It had aboot 8 years at least to develope it.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

The good news is that you asked before purchasing . All too often we have some new person asking questions about their recently purchased 2010 or diesel 1010.
If it has four brand new name brand tires. New HD battery. A good float ride seat, a SCV , dual roackshaft, HD fenders , gas engine and PS. I would splurge a $1000 into it $1050 with a full tank of fuel.

Well some of my thoughts are:
I was always told to steer clear of them even back long ago. JD guys never liked them.
I had one I got on a trade once and did a little work to a few others. I look at them like JD's version of a Farmall copy. Steering shaft thru the gas tank, bad brakes things like that.
I don't think they ever had good parts support even long ago and aftermarket does not support them either.
All in all they must of been pretty decent because look at all them still running around and even up for sale. They are at least 50 years old !

But I still would not recommend anyone to have one unless it is just for a collector.

Wake up or you could end up with a night mare.

Had a 2010 Diesel, JUNK. Park it in a creek to slow down erosion or send it to the Chinese

Run do not walk away from it before you lose your back pocket. The 1010 and 2010 where money pits when and if they had a break down. Many parts JD no longer has or can even get for them

I guess it's time someone had something positive to say about a 1010. My father-in-law bought this 1010 almost new in 1965. It's a 1963 RS gas model. He used it till he retired from farming in the late 1980's and it served him well. I purchased it from another family member in 2010. It looked bad and had not run in about 6 yrs. I restored it and almost hate to say that I enjoy using at least as much as my Dubuque 2-cylinders.

I always thought it would be neat to own a 1010 like yours. We always called them one row tractors some call them standards.I am not sure what the correct name is? I like the early ones with the gear shift on the dash,to me it seems a little more like the bigger row crops.I was told that if you had a late 1010 or 2010 most of the problems were corrected.I had a 2010 row crop gas wide front with flat top fenders and it was ok but not half as good as a 2510.Dad sold a few used 1010 and 2010 tractors but we tended to stay away from them because of the reputation. One man said you could not break a good one and that you could not fix a bad one.I have a sales brochure that shows one like yours with a 35 loader and it looks neat.

There where a few but not many that did not fall off a lemon tree but they are few and far between. Of course one big thing is how well one takes care of things

The diesels were junk. My uncle bought a new 1010 RS, gas, (what that one is) in 1962 and still has it . It has been a good tractor.I have had a couple, refurbished them and sold both for $6000.00 each. One at auction. In this area the 1010 was a lot better tractor than a 2010. I would only buy a gas.

thanks my friend bought it for cheap .. its gas runs good no smoke,,, lift dont work but seal is gone,, wont worried me was .,,he said the pto wobbles....have not seen yet thanks ya for the info my friend will luv all the input when he reads the forums....dewy

If the pto shaft and the housing are not ruined. A pair of bearings and a seal set may take the wobble out.
Early pre 31,000, mid 31,001 to 42,000 or late 42,001 serial # ?

dewy,

I like tomstractorsandtoys comment the best as this one seems to run nice, has ps, 3pt, and everything still works, even the lights.

Wish I had the side mount mower that was originally on it.
