JD 1010

The Local JD Dealer has a 1010 Gas Single Row Crop with Dual PTO on their lot. It"s sat there for a while and they want $3.750 for it.

Paint/sheet is ok and almost all there, PTO Freewheels (so I"m assuming the clutch needs to be rebuilt) quadrant lever is stuck, but the mechanic that came to jump the tractor when I test drove it indicates that the rubber bushings/friction disks seized. Also the engine smokes some.

This one is has the dash shifter and has 1,700 hours on the original tachometer, it shifts ok, but I know its too much. It was a trade on a newer piece of equipment back in January so its been sitting since it got there.

I"m still a college student and I have the service manual for this, I was going to offer 500 bucks for it. The dealer when I was asking them about it, the salesman said the 3750 was firm but if I paid what he wanted, I"d expect him to fix everything.

If 500 bucks is too little what should I offer them? I"d like another project to work on...and its in the power range I need at the farm to complement my MF 135.

If you are serious I wouldn"t insult the dealer with a token offer. One skill you need to obtain is how to buy and sell if you want to collect antique tractors. If I were dealer I"d tell you to leave if you made such a puny offer against the asking price. As a veteran tractor person(whatever that is) I"d not tie up funds in a 1010. Good luck, looks like your"re going to get a lot of non college education.

I have an industrial '64 1010 with a loader and am very happy with it, I'm told that the 1010's are starting to gain in popularite as an antique, maybe that's why the higher price

I saw a couple sell at a collectors auction a couple weeks ago. They brought in the $5000 range. Originals, nothing fancy.
