JD 1020 carb. issue

I have a JD 1020 gas tractor. The only way I can get it to consistently run is to keep the choke pulled out. When I pull down on the throttle to raise rpm"s, if the choke is on or not, it starts missing and will quit. I have replaced gas lines and cleaned sediment bowl but nothing helped. I think its something to do with the carb. What is the function of the pc. that screws into the carb. that has the 12 volt wire coming off of it? Fuel pump is pumping plenty of gas. Any help would be appreciated.

Mark, I have the same problem with my 1020. Have had the carb rebuilt but still no resolution. The shop told me to look into the springs on the spark advance, but everyone else I spoke with tells me its in the carb. Hope someone can help both us out!

IF your carburetor is clean inside, including the passages, the 12v "pc" solenoid should be diagnosed. If you can hear it click when the ignition is turned on, chances are it is working. However, that doesn't mean that the quill needle inside is retracting away from the main fuel jet enough to permit sufficient fuel to go through after starting the engine. The purpose of the solenoid is to stop the flow of fuel through the jet when the ignition is turned off, thereby stopping the engine from "dieseling". Some of the solenoids could be adjusted out, some couldn't.

That solenoid should also have an adjustment screw on the end of it . You may just need to open it up some to let more fuel in ?
