Here is a link where you can watch a John Deere Model 11A Combine made in 1939 working in a Wheat field here in New Haven, Vermont

Hope you all like it.

How long before you found the return door left open. Have a 12a and use it when I can, do enjoy harvesting with it and does a good job for the age.

Tony, Thanks for your comment. We opened the return door once we figured out that all was being recycled was chaff! It ran a lot cleaner and we lost no seed. I think that running the combine with the return door closed probably makes sense with grain that is hard to separate but with our wheat we didnt need it to run through the machine twice! Thanks! Sal

If you're only getting chaff out the return door, then it seems your sieves aren't adjusted correctly.
Are you getting any cracked kernels in the clean grain?? If so the cylinder-to-concave spacing may be wrong.

Nice. I had an 11A that needed some work, but could not get $100 for it. So it was cut up for scrap.

Boy, does that take me back. Riding the 12A with the LUC engine and the sacker. The ragweed dust was so bad I had a wet hanky all Summer. That was in the early to mid 50s on the Pa Ohio border. Still have the 45 John deere "B"" we pulled it with. Great memories---
