i have found a 2510 for sale. was wondering if these have the same reputation as a 4020 for quality? and how hard is it to take it fmor a narrow front and make it a wide front?

In my opinion they are 'okay', but not as durable as a 4020, they are a very 'down-sized' version with a much smaller steer motor and main hydraulic pump, and a different seres engine, the wide front is easly converted.

I"ve had a 2510 gas for 3 years with no problems. I use it to move round bales and small jobs. Suits me just fine.

As Tim S said the pump may or may not be a concern. A fair amount had the pumps replaced with something that would have been on a 2520 or newer tractor. Check that out. The engine is of a different family than the 4020 but not noted for a lot of problems. Putting a wide front on should be as simple as finding a used one from a similar tractor (3010, 3020, 4010,or 4020.

I think they are a very durable tractor for their size. I love the design of the engine as compared to a 404 used in a an early 4020.A 2510 will be very comparable to a 3010.If its big enough to do the job you want then go for it.

i plan on using it for a little landscaping work around a new house and brush hogging 4 acres. i want to use the loader for moving trees around i cut down.

To me that would be like compareing 2 bread trucks in a drag race, but they do make a nice little chore tractor...

I have a 2510 with a JD #46 loader. Great working and handy outfit with plenty of hydraulics. Had a 3010 and the 2510 would run circles around it. Lots more get up and go!! Starts instantly with no sputtering around.

Actually the 2510 was not part of the "10" series. It was introduced after the 3020. It is a very good tractor. The 2010 was the lemon.

The 2510 were made from 1966 to 1968 and 2520 from 69/72.I think for your use it will be fine.I am assuming were talking gas tractors and the 4020 were not very efficient and probably bring the same amount if sold at auction maybe less. The 2520 are one of the sought after collectables and there only 6318 made. The front end isnt a problem and you can probably sell your old one to an antique puller. As for reliability 40 year old tractors require a littlt extra TLC

(quoted from post at 17:41:29 01/01/10) I sold many 2510's and 20's.They will out work a 3020.
They have all the hydraulic you will need.

How can a 2510 @ PTO (tested)54.9 hp & Weight:6245 to 6745 pounds out work a 3020 @ PTO (tested)71.37 hp &Weight:7695 to 9585 pounds??????????

I think not so.

I had a 3020 gas and my uncles 2510 will do anything that the 3020 would. I read a while back that the balancing system in the 3020 made it react slugish. They had a better system in the 2510. The 2510 is a better all around tractor.
