JD 2940 key start problem

On my JD 2940 It will not start using the key. It will start using a screwdriver. How can I fix it? Thanks, Roy

Have you checked the neutral safety start switch and associated wiring?

(Key #14 in the parts drawing.)

check the switch underneath the plate where your gear shift levers are it may have come unhooked or gotten dirty . only have to remove four bolts I believe that is what happened to mine years ago

To add to what Bob stated a lot of time if switch isn't making continuity then one can remove NS switch and discard 1 or more key # 24 shims,reinstall switch and switch will return to correct operation.
