JD 2950 hydraulic problem

I've been having a strange problem with my 2950 and it seems to be becoming gradually worse. If I turn down the throttle to idle for a few minutes, I lose all hydraulic pressure even steering. Once I rev it up to 1200 RPM or more, everything comes back to normal. I also have troubles running a hydraulic motor with either of the remotes once it gets hot. The lever will pop out of "lift" mode at random times. It seems to work fine when the tractor has cooled down, and if I increase RPMS when it's hot, it seems less likely to kick out.

Is this the hydraulic pump failing or something else?

Sounds like some seals are letting fluid by when the oil gets hot. I had a 4050 that did the same thing and it was the pump.

Probably an internal low or high pressure leak. Possibly weak trans pump.

Does having pto on or off change anything? Hyd hi-lo in high or low?

Open hyd filler cap with engine running & 3pt raised. Look inside for spraying oil.

Thanks for the tips Tx Jim, I will check this out if the rain ever stops long enough for me to start haying again.

I have a JD 2940 and I had a similar problem. I boght the tractor at an auction so no warranty. i took the transmision screen out and cleaned it. It was full of sludge. I also changed the tranny filter. The tractor works fine now, Roy
