Parts are getting out of this world expensive I won’t argue that for a second I still think that it’s a tractor I’m not scared of as much even as the utility tractors you would be using for a doner engine. On a side note the last rear half I got from the scrapper was painted yellow under the green compared to the other pieces and has a serial number that doesn’t match a 3020 what’s its exact twin in the industrial world? It was painted green and I have no doubt it was on a 3020 at the end but I was just curious I know the 500b is close but is it really more of a 310? She seems very smooth shifting and so far it’s been working good.

A&I 4.25'' bore piston/liners/rings for gasoline part # A-SK243 are $300.96 per cylinder What bore is a 241 cid engine because I don't see it listed for a 3020 gasoline. Yesterdays tractors offers a kit also. View attachment 6648
Jim, the 241 is spec'd at 4.25" according to the tech manual for 123,000-. RP955111 is the Reliance kit number for the 241 pistons/sleeves, bearings, seals and head gasket kit. I googled the number at supposedly Jensales has it for $3,262.

Interestingly I checked with Deere and put together a list of the same parts as in the Reliance kit and came up with a total of $2071. This included pistons/sleeves, bearings, gasket kit, front and real main seals. Even more surprising I checked the Deere inventory and it looks like all the parts are still available. Piston and sleeve kit through Deere that I think would be needed in our 3020 is AR52549, which is ONE cylinder kit so total of 4 needed. There might be a misprint or something got left out in parts on that page because the block number on our 3020 is R40690 which I don't see listed on the cylinder kit page. R40690 Is listed for the main bearings though.

To make thing even more confusing, AR52548 piston/liner kit is listed on the same page as AR52549 in both -122,999 and the 123,000- parts catalogs. I'm guessing AR52548 is used in the 227 engine because it says 4.00 in the notes. 227 engine has a 4.00" stroke. and the 241 has a 4.25" stroke. Why both are listed in both catalogs is beyond me.

241 should be later side console not sure which he has. And you are right 64 to 68 seems like parts are less money I don’t know if they mark the other ones up more because everyone goes crazy over a side console or if it’s because it matches something else that it’s easier to get but it’s very true. 4020 same way. 3020 gases of both types seem to be made in about the same amount 19000 over 4 years in that age range and 19000 over 3 side console so not much more demand count wise...

I think the 241 is kind of an orphan engine. It was only used in the 3020 and a backhoe as far as I know.

Main problems with installing a utility tractor engine in a rowcrop tractor is the need for a special flywheel housing, hyd pump support bracket & modified side frames.
Bellcrank from a 4030, flywheel from a JD dozer make frame rails for starters. some people on this site have repowered 3020s check them out first. My 2 cents.

Walk away from it,, there are many things that are unavailable for 3020 engines...
What is the difference in the 3010 diesel and the early 64 model 3020 diesel engines and what would you have to change to put a 3010 diesel in a 64 3020 power shift tractor? Buy another tractor that's ready?
