JD 316 wiring harnes

I have a 1978 JD 316 with Kohler motor. I rebuilt motor and now it won"t charge. Can someone let me know where I can get a wiring diagram? Thanks, FredCT.

Ask nicely at your nearest DEERE dealer. If the service manager is a decent fellow he will run off a copy for you.

That wiring harness is pretty simple, and it is not easy to hook it up wrong. Unless your wiring has been cut and spliced it's not usually a problem. Even if it is a complete mess, a new wiring harness is not that expensive.

If you have a multimeter, you can test things out yourself. The outside two posts on the voltage regulator should have at least 28 volts AC at wide open throttle. If not, your stator is bad. The middle post should have at least 13.8 volts DC to ground - positive wire on the post and negative wire to the ground. If you have the AC voltage but no DC voltage, your voltage regulator is bad.

The next most likely problem is the ignition switch. Try cleaning the contacts on the switch and in the plastic connector with an electronic instrument cleaner spray. A new switch is not that expensive either.
