JD 345 recall?

Was there ever a recall on the JD 345 to correct the fuel pump bomb potential. I can not believe a JD engineer would design a mower with a fuel pump vent hole that will spray a fine mist of gas over a muffler when the diaphram ruptures. There is a heat shield between but that must get hot enough to ignite the fuel.

The replacement fuel pump has a better setup but JD never offered a price break on it and never recalled the mowers for an obvious defect.

Oh John Deere never offers a refund on their behalf. They test the products in the field and then let the consumer or Farmer pay the bill.

I'm not saying JD blameless, however I think the most part of blame rests with eng mfg,JD bought eng/muffler setup from eng mfg, then shoe horned eng into tractor,as noted in eariler post, eng mfg has a new style pump & mod kit with same,I agree JD prices a rip off,but you can't blame JD completely for eng mfg design screw up,mfg discovered problem & quitely designed a retro fit kit,JD & eng mfg may/may not have a secret sweetheart deal going where pump/labor for retro kit covered while tractor under warranty, after that it's owners problem,a recall might ruin company(eng mfg)depending on number of units involved, they may just tend to ignore, unless gov forces a recall on them

Just so you know, even other companies did same thing. GM put their pump so it sprayed at hot exhaust manifold. Lovely thing to do.
