JD #39 Sickle mower

I am looking at a #39 sickle mower for sale. It is listed as a 3pt, but has two arms out the front also. Can anyone tell me how this model attaches and if it would fit a 424 International? Is the cutter bar raised by lifting the arms or do you use a cylinder?

The arms you mention work in concert with the three-point arms to raise the cutterbar. NO extra hydraulics are needed. It's hard to explain, but easy to understand once you have it attached to the tractor and see how it works.

The long arms will clamp to your lower lift arms on your tractor, the 3rd link is mainly for tilting the cutter bar up and down. They are a good mower, Dad bought one new in 1969 and used it until 96 when he passed away.

You can see in the photos below how the lower lift arms are attached to the mower.

All the sections were replaced.

All the rock guards were replaced.

All the knife holders and spacers were replaced.

It works good and is our backup mower #3 if the other 2 decide to quit.

I also have A JD #39 sickle mower.I got it used but have use it A lot. Looking at the pictures, it is just like mine. I live in E Tx. and the fire ants are bad. That will make it trip if they are big. That is the only problem I have with mine.
You can still get parts for it.
Good luck.
