JD 4010 battery box

I need a new battery box for a 4010. JDs price is $500+! I bought an after market box a year ago for under $100 but had to Jerry rig it a bit to get it on and the rear latch never connected properly.

My questions:

Is there an aftermarket brand that will be a better fit for the 4010 that you guys recommend?

Was the one I bought a bad fit because aftermarket boxes are one size fits all but OEM is specific for each model tractor? (The after market vendors say their models are compatible with various JD parts numbers.)

The after market brands seem to run from $80-120. Is this a you get what you pay for scenario or do you guys think they are all the same? Still waaaayyyy cheaper than JD!

Hope to hear about the your experiences and your recommendations! Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Six or eight years ago I got aftermarket battery boxes for my 3010. Quality seems good, fit is good, I think I did a little rigging to mount them, but not much. Price was reasonable.

Seems I heard a while back that the JD boxes were better quality for the same money as the aftermarket ones.

Just FYI Mark,

When I went to your link I still had to call a dealer for pricing. So I called a different dealer. The
price I got today was $200+ for just the box.. no attachment points or levers.. just wow!,

So I will go with one of the aftermarket vendors. Just not sure which one yet.

I want to avoid the Jerry rigging if I can.

Dave,

If you have a link I would sure like to see it. Per my comments below, I am not getting anything close to that price from my dealers.

If just the bottom area is rusted out, Guidtex using
1/8 steel to weld in is right for being a good bit
cheaper.
I repaired my 4020 box myself for less that $20 not
counting electricity. Still holding up well.

Maybe I'm wrong again, but I have a real strong suspicion that if you get one from a Deere dealer, it's going to be from A&I. Find another vendor who sells A&I and you'll probably get the same box cheaper.

I have bought some aftermarket branded "Advantage", and they were thicker than the others. ABilene Machine had them.

I guess I am just stumped. Any link I go to says see dealer for pricing.

I suspect the price you show is just the box without the latches or hooks.

I am going to go with aftermarket and hope I get a decent product.

This is an example of what I get
