JD 4020 Power Loss

Really need some help here so thank you in advance. Have a 67 powershift, motor runs very strong does not use much oil but I am really down on power. Tractor can't even get out of its own way let alone pull anything. Replaced fuel filters, replaced charge pump, checked air system (pulled apart)and no blockages or collapsed intake hose, injector pump rebuilt about 200 hours ago. Leads me to to believe I have a real problem with the tranny robbing power. You should see the smoke role out of her when she is trying to move, just boggin down badly. PTO works fine as well. Something just not right. Please help. Thank you, Aaron

Be sure inj pump is timed correctly. Have performed a engine compression check? Powershift trans would require pressure testing all C&B hyd functions. Could be as simple as blown gasket in control valve to warped discs in clutch packs.

If no smoke, the pump is not pumping enough fuel. Try turning it up a 1/16th or 1/8th a turn and see if it improves.

Timing/ignition advance is also good to check. But, if not working the tractor would skip and smoke more, not less.

Which pump do you have? The CBC or the JDB?

If you load up the PTO and it works fine, but does not move correctly the problem would probably be in the geartrain.

Thank you for the responses. Today I changed both hydraulic filters, changed the oil and filter, put everything back together. Removed hood and disconnected air intake hose. Hooked up my 4 bottoms and could barely get tractor to pull in 2nd gear. Disconnected plows, took tractor down road - went thru gears just fine but really lugged hard in 6,7,and 8th. Just can't figure out what is robbing the power so bad unless motor is just getting tired. Hydraulic fluid was clean and smelled fine (no shavings), and oil was black as usual but nothing out of the ordinary.

I'm wondering if the brake valve is leaking through and partialy applying the brakes,,it can happen, remove the brake lines at the valve(the ones that go to each brake) and start the engine, look to see if there is oil pumping out, it don't take much, there should be "no" oil comming out where the lines go on. Just another thing to eliminate...

I would just open the bleed screws on the rear axels. I would guess that the fuel screw has backed off or speed advance and timing are off.

Take the fuel line off at the lift pump and see if you have a good flow of fuel to the pump.If restricted, blow the line out backwards. Remove the fuel cap first. If o.k. try removing the fuel filler cap to see that the vent is o.k..

There is a gauge for the transmission temperature, does it every register hot or even above normal when operating?

With the smoke (if black) says you are getting fuel. Have you had injection pump off and timing could be off?

Sounds like transmission is giving fits, especially if you could put on dyno and horsepower is correct and engine runs well.
