JD 4430 - Water Circulation Question

Thanks. I have completely bypassed the OEM lift pump (because the glass bowl was cracked, the rubber washer dry rotted and the hand pump inoperable). The only lift pump I am using is a 12v electric pump rated at 4psi. I think I am going to purchase one of those $30 Chinese lift pumps on ebay and see if that results in an improvement.

It should at least run on the lift pump you have if you get the air bled out of the fuel gallery in the I.P.. Probably wouldn't deliver full H.P., though.

Fuel from your electric pump should be going to the filters, then to a fitting on the side near the back end of the I.P., then out through a fitting that's towards the front of the I.P. at the front end of the fuel gallery, and to the return circuit.

With your electric pump running, loosen the return line AND the fitting in the I.P. body and fuel pushed by the pump should come out.

If NO fuel comes out it's NOT going to start. (There's a check valve after the filters that takes a little pressure to open.)

As I said before, be prepared to choke off the air supply should it start and "run away".
