I have a John Deere 4440 with a rod knocking. It is used daily and just started this. Other than this it is in good shape...ha! Anyone have an idea how much the repair cost will be on this?

Thanks

Are you sure its a rod ? The 50 series had the tops breaking off the pistons and I think the 40 series would do this as well. Just a thought

Had a tick in my 4430 at 8700 hours- was a rod going out of round. Fixed that, and an underhaul on the crank- over 11000 hours now. First engine.

An engine kit is about $1500 for the regular kit,$2000 for the 'expanded' kit which has rod bolts, cam bushings, rod pins& bushings,,the rods should be re-sized, which happens when the machine shop instals and fits the rod bushings, the head should be milled, I also mill the exhaust side too if it's pitted around the gasket area, and of course check and grind the crank if needed, new head bolts 'should' be used also, they strech, You will end up with about$3000 to $3500 in parts and machine work,I charge about $1800 for labor on a out of frame (which is the best way) O/H. puts you at around $5300, (that puts a new clutch in too).
