Looking at a JD 450 c with clam shell bucket sn281394T its straight off retiree's farm with new undercarriage. I'm wanting to clean up some previous pushed dozer piles from 10 years ago and small fence rows. Does anyone have idea on year od this dozer and 65hp is big enough to clean up old brush piles isn't it. Any info and things to look for would be appreciated

450C would be 70s model, not sure of exact years. How effective it will be on your brush piles depends on how big they are and just how much of a tangled mess their in. If everything is sort of stacked laying the same way it'll be no problem but if the trees and limbs are piled all pointed different ways its gonna be a pain because you'll have to seperate everything out a piece at a time and make neat little stacks to grab with the bucket.

I had a 450 dozer and it was great for what it was made for. Keep in mind that it is not huge, but it will work all day long if it is a good one. I liked the size because it was very agile and could go places the bigger ones couldn't. After you clean up the brush piles, you will not want to sell it. That size is just too much fun to have around the farm.

They were made from 74 till 83. The one you're looking at is a 77. The nice thing with a bucket is you can pick some of the pile up and roll it because of the high lift of the loader. You can use the bucket teeth like a mini brush rake as well. Doing anything with brush, you really have to watch, not only for branches that will come at you but the hyd. lines on the 4 in 1 bucket. They'll get destroyed from falling branches and other debris getting behind the bucket. Don't ask me how I know. I have a similar sized Cat. It will do the work but take longer. You just have to work at a corner of the brush pile at a time. Of course it depends a lot on the piles you have to move.

Size matters! You can make a mole hill out of a mountain with the 450.....one small bite at a time. As long as you take your time and don't think that it's a D8 you will be fine.
