JD 450C starter removal

I have been tasked with the removal of the starter from my husband"s JD 450c loader/backhoe. I am not strong enough to manipulate the starter through the small opening with the bucket on the ground and since it won"t start, I can"t raise the loader bucket. So, is there a way to raise the bucket with a jack, etc.? Do I need to drain the hydraulic fluid? From the whole unit or just the loader? Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

You can use a jack, chain hoist or another loader tractor to lift it up and then block it up. You just have to move the control valve to let the oil flow back into the reservior.

I always , Always , Always , tell my customers to not shut off their machine without rolling the bucket into the fully dumped position..There's plenty of room to get that pesky starter out with the loader boom up this little bit..I've got a crane on my truck , so I wouldn't have a problem with it..Just what did you do wrong to get a task like that ???? You into bondage???

glad to hear a woman attempting or assisting in machinery repair. revlon has plenty of nail polish and im sure your husband will treat you to a manicure. by the way, why do they call it a "Man"acure? and what is a womanicure? good luck, d. coleman

Thank you all for your kind responses. I will try the jack and block approach. And, I will advise Husband to always, always roll the bucket before he shuts the tractor down. To satisfy the curious, in addition to being a lawyer and a pilot and having my own woodworking shop, I have always enjoyed mechanical work. Must be genetic from dear ole dad. Husband is purely an academic. Regrettably, I lack sufficient nails for a manicure. Thanks again for the suggestions.
