JD 4520-Any advice

My 4520 (turbo) is parked outside. Came out this morning and noticed the rain cap on exhaust pipe standing straight up. Couldn't believe my eyes and can't believe it was like that 2 days ago. Anyways, not sure how long like that-we have had blowing snow AND rain the last couple of days. Looked down pipe and see snow sitting at the elbow. What should I do? Afraid to just try and start it. Anyone with some advice-would sure appreciate it. Thanks

Don't start it. i'm thinking that your turbo is liable to be frozen, and you'll blow it out. You need to get the pipe off and investigate more before you start it. Couldn't tell you if there was water in the cylinders. probably.

Crank it up. Even if the turbo is frozen , the tractor will start and run just fine unless the manifold is almost completely full of water.That being the case, I doubt it will even start. As soon as the exhaust developes enough heat it will thaw out, but I seriously doubt that it is frozen at all.
I predelivered a new 4520 once and some clown on the assembly line had stuffed a big wad of plastic tape inside the turbo and had it completely locked thec turbine wheel up.It only produced 110 horsepowewr that way.The tractor ran great after I removed the wad of tape.

take the inlet hose off the turbo and see if u can spin it by hand

Turbo should be uphill from the exhaust ports in the head and the outlet on the manifold so it should not be froze. Tractors sit out all the time without a cap Its not good for but it don't wreck em either Go ahead and start it .
