The 4620 were only made in 71/72 and 6928 total of which 1883 were powershift.Hard to buy one for much under $10K and a few nice open stations have been in middle to high teens.Their cab wasn't the quietest but were a good tractor.Condition, tires, hours ,open station, and powershift all enter in to the equation. Its what the buyer will take and what you are willing to give. Two powershifts sold last year in N.W.Ia for around $30K.

Whats a 4520 open station powershift in excellent cond . worth ,dual hyd ,20 . 8 38 r1 firestones at about 60 % front weights near perfect sheet metal .

B Woods A lot of 4520s had the updated 4620 motor which was better. There were 1662 w/P.S which is fairly low .It would make a little difference if it has the tall pump also.I would guess to the right party if original $12/15K could bring more depends on hours. Some collectors want every model of a series and you don't see many 4520 open stations. There can be $10K difference in similar models.I saw one of the nicest 4620s with cab w/a/c sell for $15K less than 7000 hours.

The 4620"s were a rugged old work horse, I have one here in the shop now for a clutch,, a piece broke off on the release lever and it won"t stop... I hot wired it in reverse to bring it in, I"ve done that a lot,, but was a bit uneasy about doing it with this tank,,didn"t need another door in the shop...

Wouldn't that be a sight B&D,, I remember the first 4620 that I ever saw, and the "BIG" heavy front end was the first thing I noticed,, then when it started down the field with a 3 row Fox silage chopper just a "hogging" in the corn I was amazed at the power it, we were working with a pair of 4020's at the time...

I have a pretty nice 72 syncro with near new rear tires in the YT classifieds for $9,500. The lowest I have seen was around $7,500 with no 3 point and so so tires. Out local JD dealer had a couple for $13,000 and $14,000. I don't think either was a power shift. I have seen a couple fair new paint power shifts sell for the mid 20's. A friend of mine sold a 4520 for $9,000. They vary a lot but I don't think you are going to find a nice one with 3 point for much under $10,000. Just my experiences.

Don't know what they're worth, but......we had 2 of 'em 'way back when'; they, along with a black-stripe 1066 were our first "big" tractors. I loved 'em, 'though in all honesty, they were a bit of a dog at 135 (pto) HP. Practically had to beg someone to drive the 1066, although it was bought new and the 46s were bought used. Also had 4 (I think) 4020s at the same time. Had been pulling a 5-bottom and a 6-bottom semi-mount plow with a couple of the 4020s; LARGE step up when we hooked the 135 HP to the same plows......ah, the good old days.

Did that with a 4010 they had been running w/o access cover under bell housing. Grass seed and trash buildup would not allow clutch release. Started really easy.
PERFECT STORM!!
1: Was in high enough gear to drive all the way around shop.
2: Baler twine laying in floor replaced shutoff cable.
3: No steering unless engine speeded up enough to have hydraulics and front wheels already turned when started.
4: The only good thing was 4010 great brakes, except no hydraulics unless engine speeded up to have hydraulics. Was able to keep jamming LH brake pedal to scoot front around enough that only caused monor damage to my truck.

Even better... Some brothers bought a 4520 PS new and sent it to Kinze for an 871 Detroit. Kinze told them not to shift on the go under load.
They had Fox build a pull type version of their (Fox's) self-propelled chopper.
They had an Oliver plow w/subsoiler shanks under each bottom.
In later years after being zoned out and each moving to different locations the 4520 was the only tractor that would pull his disk right. He had 2 4430s running 200 horses.
As he expanded he ended up with two Romes I think, could have been Big Buds.
This guy was a big plunger for those days.

Ooh my ,, now That would have been a good video...Last fall I helped a friend replace the seal on the operating lever for the Hydrostatic transmission in a 6620, it was setting in a pole building,, well I didn"t get the little inner lever hooked into the right place and put it together,,started it and it lurched forward, I pulled the stick back and it kept going,, By the time I got the stop pulled it came against a pole and snapped it,,now that kind of stuff will get your blood flowing ...

I think if that happened to me it would put some "skid marks" in my Fruit of the Looms.

B&D doesn't know much does he? I didn't say they didn't have coolers. Besides they would go over 200 w/o coolers.

Now D- you must remember b&d is a nuclear scientist or electrician or something like that. Please don't capitalize the letters in his handle as that makes it look similar to BAD and we don't want his head to get an larger than it is!

Now children play nice,, a 4430 will easily make 200HP without a inter cooler,, but it won't live long,, so every one is kinda right..back in the 70's we sold a lot of 4430's and when every one found out how easy it was to turn them up the shop stayed full of clutch jobs and differential failures,,"Faster Horses Need Better Wagons"...

My neighbor had Kinze put a 6v71 put in his 4520 syngro.Never had any problems just cant hear very well.He then got an 8850 and had a Kinze 855 installed and it still runs great today. Our first and only 4520 had injector problems and we also went to the bigger pump as our turbo charged 4020s actually did better until JD fixed it then if I remember it had about 150H.P. and we usually kept the 4020s under 125. I don't recall of ever hearing of rear end problems in 4520/4620.

I agree those were and still are fine tractors. Still have one of the power shift ones . I can remember in the fall of 71 when I first saw one , duals and everything . That was farming my friend , finally got to see what 5th gear was for !
