JD 468 net wrap problem

At the beginning of hay season my 468 did what it is supposed to do. Now it will not wrap automatically when the bale reaches the size that it is programmed to do. I have to press netwrab switch. On the monitor the bale size can be read intermittedly with the n8. Is n8 the wire that is malfunctioning? or should I look at something else? Roy

What's n8? Have you had a JD technician test your monitor??? Have you checked clearance adjustment on parts key #20????

I will check the clearance on item 20. I have contacted the local JD mech. He didn't know what the problem is. Roy

I don't know about your problem but most electrical problems are grounds. That is what I would check and make sure it is clean and tight.

Your JD tech must not be much of one if he can't fix the newer balers. If I had the monitor/baler in front of me I would go into the diagnostic side of the monitor and check all of the switches/sensors. Either your monitor is not getting a read out from a switch/ sensor or the monitor is bad itself. I am not trying to be a smart butt here but these newer balers are fairly easy to check out if you know how to go through the steps required.

The bale size sensor is just a potentiometer or positional rheostat. It gives the monitor different voltage as the bale is made larger. When you set the bale size on the monitor you are just telling it what voltage to wrap at.

It would take a book long posting here to tell you how to check all of the stuff out that might be causing your problem. You need to either get a service manual or a tech that has one and knows how to use it, to go through the channels in the monitor and check the wrap system out.

There are several things that have to happen in a sequence for it to wrap/tie automatically. If any of it does not happen in order then it will not work. It could be several little things or it could be the monitor too. The only way to know is to go step by step and check it all out.

Sorry that we can't tell you it is some little thing that you just walk up an adjust/fix and all is well. They are a more complex system than that.

Thanks JD for your response. I have a manual but I haven't learned all the codes. The local JD dealer has one mechanic that is supposed to be able to fix it, however he is on sick leave and won't be back to work til the 15th. I checked the net wrap sensor but it will not make a clicking noise, could be bad. Roy

Yes, the gate switches are working. The problem seems to be in the net wrap switch. Thanks for your response. Roy
