JD 50 motor work

I am looking to do a little pulling with a john deere 50, can anyone tell me where to start as far as what mods I could do with the motor, and what i could expect to make for hp?

How deep are your pockets and how much HP do you want to make?
A good running 50 can spin out in 1st gear in the 5500 & 6500b class no problem.
First three things to make distance down the track before adding HP is. Traction, traction and traction.

crazy, I'm with you on this one. Took me 900 cubes to get 120 hp from a G. Now 900 cubes from a Moline, that another story.

no crap....530 in an A isn't but 85..but an M IH at 530..theres a 125+.....a 2 cyl is in-efficient when it comes to hp. neways...didn't want the 50 guy to be pumped up with falsehoods..thats all.

you must not be doing something right then because an A around here with just 415CI is right at 70hp.... 85hp at 530CI seems a little low dont ya think?

The next time you pull against JDBPuller, don't mention HP..OK..?
Just to "Hold it Back", he uses 4th and 5th Gear...!

Ron..

What you can do is limited to your wallet, time and imagination. Here's some ideas and relative costs/HP for you to consider

(205 cubes) 40-45HP+ - Just overbore it, new pistons/rods and bump the compression - About $1000 plus boring

(280 cubes) 50-55HP - Overbore, new psitons, stroker crank, cam, rods -- About $2200 + plus boring & head/carb

(310 cubes) 55-65HP - Powerblock bored to 5.125" w/Stroke (same cost as stock block but you have the additional cost of the PB in there) + head/carb

(400-450 cubes) 80-100HP - 5.75"-6.125" block, crank, cam - About $5500 + head/carb

(520 cubes) 120HP would be a fun number, but would take considerably more work & money. (moving cam, big crank (thinking 8.5"), 1600-1700 RPM's, 6.25" block, you get the picture).

I don't know the actual HP, I've ripped all the PTO stuff out of there, but mine is in the 4th group, and I always leave both plug wires on :D
