I have a JD 620 LP that has been running perfectly. Yesterday, I added transmission fluid (80-90 weight gear oil). I know I did not overfill it since the oil never did run out of the fill hole at the bottom. I was also having some knocking in the hydraulics and I added fluid to the hydraulics. I checked the crankcase and noticed it was at the low end, so I added a quart and when I checked again, it was at the full mark. Cranked the tractor up and the hydraulics knocked once or twice and then the noise went away completely. That was great. But suddenly, the tractor started billowing out clouds of white smoke. No adverse sounds from the tractor. The engine runs smoothly. Could the transmission fluid someway get into the crankcase? If I overfilled the crankcase, could that cause the smoking? I noticed in the manual that crankcase oil can transfer to the transmission, causing excess oil consumption. Could it go in reverse? Sure would like some help on this one. Thanks.
