JD 810 plow

I finally have found a local auction to go to here in NE Pennsylvania where a 150 year old family farm is selling out. These are John Deere farmers. We don't see many of the larger two cylinders in this country. There is only a 50 offered at this auction along with a new generation tractor. Auction is showing two 3 point mounted plows, 3 and 4 bottom. I know the 730 was designed to handle 5, but our soil here is not easy to turn. Am interested in the 4 bottom. Looking at my thirty series literature, I believe it shows an 810 series plow as current for the 30 series. Can anyone shed any light on this series plow and possibly tell me where to see a picture? Am I on the right track for my 730D RC with this model plow? They also show a wheeled four bottom JD plow on the auction bill. Makes me curious as the only older tractor shown is the 50.

3pt fully mounted plows were available for the 3010 thru 4020 tractors also. If the soil in your area is stiff plowing, the 3 bottom is plenty for the 730. The 4 bottom is a very heavy piece of equipment and you would need a substantial amount of weights on the front end to compensate for the weight of the plow or you will be staring off into the sky. The 50 would not handle any of the plows you mentioned.

Go to the implement photos in the left collom of this page and look for 810 JD plows. An 810A would be a better matched plow. The made the top link mast stronger, but an 810 is a good plow too.

If one is a 3-16" mounted plow..that will match well with your 730..almost as big as a 4-14" and has more trash clearance..
I have pulled 4-16" with my 630 (with 300 lb front weight) in 2nd gear..
My 720 pulls it well in 3rd..(with front wt).
You won't need front weight with a 3-16"..
If you have a choice, I would pick the 16" plow, if there is one to pick..
The 4-14" pull-type will work well, too..takes up more storage space, but easier to move around..
Also makes you leave a wider end-land to plow off at the end of the field..
The 3-16" makes a nice load that won't work your 730 very hard..probably won't see any smoke at all in 3rd..and any tough spots will be no problem..
I have one semi-mounted 4-16" I am going to cut down to 3-16 semi-mount.
I have another 4-16 Semi (great condition) I may let go..

Thanks for the comments from all three of you. I got about all I needed from the three posts....tractor matching, photos, and front weight requirements. I intend on getting down there this week before auction to talk to the farmer and see what is there. Good part was that all three of you basically had same comments on the three bottom. Thanks to Bushhog's comments on moldboard size, I will check that. I have original front weight sets...one three and one four, but do not want to load up the tractor too much.
