Outside of a very few 3-speed experimental prototypes evaluated in 1933 (none of which are known to exist today), all Model "A" tractor transmissions had either 4-or 6-speeds. The single lever transmissions began at s/n 648000.

The six speed was also a 3 x 2 transmission with the 1, 2, 3 and High-Low shifted by the single lever. The R had a 5 speed and the 8xx had a 6 speed transmission without the H-L.
