Jd B again

I'm sure Wickams B's or B run great, So tell me what is needed to get more hp then, I'm at 52 (.176 hp /cube) with 294 cubes. Just bought a block from a friend that I could have bored to get me up to 5.450 from my 5.080 now, how much more power would be expected in your eyes from that alone? Most likely will have the B at Wauseon next month, so if Mr. Wickam is there then it should be fun, Might have the new block in then too. and These Jd's that will teach me and my family how to pull in Sigourney...who would that be? NOT being cocky, just curious. Does wickam run 2nd or 3rd gear in DIV 4?

its like baker stated a few post ago diamond theres nothing like knowing the power it makes comes from youre ability and not some far off land tunning power man . if they make more they have figured out something you havent but if you keep choppin at it you can find it also. difference in racers vs tractorpullers . when a racer gets his rear handed to him he goes home and starts working. a tractor puller stays after the pull crying for a rule change.

I think its great that your learning how to get power out of your tractor.

Wickman, he figured out how to put it to the ground.

I dont think you wanna go after Wickman"s B"s without a few warm up runs first. He will hand your tailshaft to anybody if he is on his game.

Im telling you this from experience, Ive seen those two get their act together on more than one occasion, he has taken my entry money home several times as I have taken some of his!! LOL!

Im not trying to discredit you either,,,, or anybody, but have seen those B"s run, and have been stung by em, you better bring your A game. JMHO. ChadS

I have more experience with the A"s and G"s, but if you"re tuned it in as far as fuel and timing, everything match ported, and have releived the IV shrouds head wise, you have compression up, so thats fine, and the roller rockers.. you might be at your limit without adding bore and/or stroke. What type manifold are you running? As far as the carb, I wouldnt use anything bigger than a late A carb. I have also found dyno numbers are all over the place, yours seem realistic. I would pull it and give her a test run or two.. see if you have limitations on what you are trying to achieve here. Your power may completely satisfy you, then its a question of hooking it up on the track.. something all the power in the world wont give you. Good luck.

Ive had it out once with it running good and took a 6th out of around 20 in the 3500 div 3 Natpa pull in Corunna Michigan, in the 3250A div 4 it lost by a foot and a half with the front end sky high. It has all steel weight brackets and wheely bars, battery not out front and plan on borrowing my cousins 14.9-38 alluminum rears and making alluminum brackets and wheely bars, along with lots of other things to lighten her up. Does anyone know anything about lighter brakes on the john deeres? What compression does eveyone else believe best on a B? Thanks

you will get answers all over the board on compression, I alway heard at 20 percent over on rpm to keep Deeres under 200 psi at cranking speed or it will fight itself, but that may be one of those things that is opinion only. I always shot for 185-190 regardless of how big the motor was. Lighter brakes are fabbed on other makes, but never heard of on deeres. Move batt. forward, bob the axles, lose the factory seat bracket (use thin wall conduit and make the seat rigid) all aluminum brackets, wheelie bars as you are doing will shave weight. Lose some rear end oil (not to much) and not too much fuel in the tank. Stretch those weights out front to the maximum.

Never fabbed any on a Deere, and I would do all those things mentioned and then see how much transferable weight you will have on the front. As far as cams, way back in 1996 used a Lunati (that was just ultra stupid and I didnt research enough into it, Im sure they ground one for a race car, lol) it had no lug after that, used a Robert's later on, and it helped, but didnt perform much better than the increased ratio roller rockers, like you have. Now I only mess with the cam if its torn all the way down, and only change em out if they are early tractors. For example On unstyled G's use the F900R late G/70 cam, unstyled A, use the late A/60 cam, etc. Always heard great things about Sonny with bullet cams, and heard Dengler makes a great cam, but have ran neither, sorry. If your tractor is making plenty of power and not losing too much rpm affecting your ground speed or stalling I wouldnt mess with it, until/if you decide to go bigger on the bore, and I would talk to each of them and decide who's the man.

I seen a late B with a Lunati cam in it from around me and he screamed it all the time. but it seemed to run good as long as it screamed. Did yours run good at high rpm and just wouldnt lug? I have heard of bullet and dengler but never dealt with them. I have talked to Jd B Puller on here and he seems to know his stuff and is a real good guy to talk to, has anyone ran his cam? I will probably go with him but would like to know other peoples experiences.

well no doubt the lunati was probably designed for high rpm, never screamed it because of our rules, as far as jd b puller, he has a lot of nice items out and some in the works. From what he offers if he keeps expanding AND if he keeps the prices reasonable enough he will surpass murphys motor on certain items. Is there a good time for you to tear down the engine? See, Im done til spring, but a lot of you guys run in the winter.

Yeah I can tear it down, Other than grinding on the eyebrows the head is stock. It seems to flow good, are bigger valves needed?

Match port the head to manifold, you would be surprised, the ports dont completely match up. Also enlarge the IV valve bowls some and smooth them out (you can use a die grinder or dremel) and smooth out any sharp edges or flaws on the intake port all the way through. Go with a multi angle valve job as well. Bigger valves are not always the way to go, and you will get great flow out of your stock head. I know that alone would get you from 52 to 55 hp. Cheap hidden power as well.

I've seen Wichmans B "Yellow jacket" pull since the early 90's, but i feel that you all are overlooking one very important point. How to read a track! I've seen two identical late G's in 7500 class, one died out at 200 ft, the second walk all the way out to 275 and won the class. Now what was the factor that help one over the other, It was his knowledge of how to read a track. If you have a tractor that can apply the power and you can READ the track, your something to be rivaled with, but if you can't read the track all the power in the world is not going to help you.

Anyone can find a bad spot on any track, you have to have a little luck with your track reading skills too.
