JD B flat head

I have a "41 JD B that I want to run a flat head on. Is a Heisler my only option? I believe an unstyled B head has a different bolt pattern. I"m NOT trying to simply raise my compression or anything like that. The head must be a flathead for what I"m doing. Any info would be appreciated.

I am just brainstorming as to what you would do with a flat head that you can't with a chambered head. Unshrouded valves? Bigger valves? With a dome in the center of the piston, or a dish with a high outter ridge you could create a quench area perhaps. Bigger cylinders or offset cylinders? All I can think of for now.

Funny how tractor pulling keeps the brain working overtime.

Matt, I take back what I said before. If you are looking for a flathead for this project a Heisler may not work as it has eyebrows around the valves.

'41 JD "B" had: 14.03 HP at the Drawbar and 18.53 HP on the Belt (or PTO)..

Probably possible to add a few Ponies to it...
Can probably safely add 50 HP to it..!!!

Ron..

I think the bolt pattern between a flat head and cyclone head are the same. the main difference is the thickness. the cyclone head is 1/2 inch thicker and the late style block is 1/2 shorter than old style. So, total engine length is the same. to run a flat head on a late block you need special push rods. i have a good flat head with valves and intake I will sell if you need one. Also, I have a 5-2 power block if anyone needs one.

I hope your right, but I think the bolt patterns are different. Can I get a picture of that flat head? I might be able to get a '39,'40 head to work.

I am in central Ontario, Canada. Keep the wheels turning and the ideas flowing. Time and effort in the research phase of your project will pay dividends down the road when you hit the track.

With some work a 39-40 head will bolt onto the later block, it is a flat head but different part number than the unstyled.
