I am working on my 51G right now. It's my first restoration and I could write you a book on "If I ever do another one, I would do it this way instead". The tractor came into my shop with a blown head gasket and a "clunking" sound on the right side of the crank. The drive disc was shimmed at one time and it was in terrible shape. I figured it would do it no justice to just fix the head gasket and not the rest of the problems like bad wiring, leaking radiator core ect... So, I opened up my wallet. The Crank is currently with Mike Williams getting resplined because I was lucky enough to find a NOS drive disc to put on it. I bored the block to 45 over, rebuilt the head with all new valves, springs, keepers and guides and had them both resurfaced and checked for cracks. I even had the mains rebabbited at Paul's. He did a nice job. Everything from the Crank and dash forward has been rebuilt with new bearings or parts. Biggest lesson learned was to check the fit of the drive disc BEFORE you put the Crank in the tractor, not after. I also learned that .010 rod bearing inserts are almost as hard to find as the NOS drive disc. I could have saved myself alot of headaches but I've never been known to be the smartest guy in the world. When I get my computer back up at home I'll shoot you some pictures.
