JD MT puller, need advice

What can I do to give a jD MT a little more for pulling. Would be pulling in the 3000lb and 3500lb class. Dont think you can get it down the 2500lb class. Just some tips and advice would help and if there is anyone out there pulling an MT there help would be great.

I pull an M, and some friends pull some MT's. To get 3000 is gonna require taking everything off that doesn't make the tires turn. They pull quite well for what they are. I would say wider tires are a must, taller will kill what little motor they have. 14.9x28 tires are the same height as original, just wider. You can get some compression easily with custom pop up pistons, that with some porting on the head and a 430 carb and you will be pulling strong. A good hitch setup will be a must, tuck it as far under the tractor as possible. In the 3000 all the weight you have needs to be on the front, and it prob. won't be enough then. Watch out for the allis wc's, they will make the lil M and MT's look quite pueny.

Best of luck pulling, email is open if you have any specific questions.

An older gentleman pulls with us with a little M that is really strong its 292 cubic inches stroked and bored and turning some r's its pretty cool to watch and believe it or not its competitive even in the 5000 antique against m farmalls but even a stock MT is hard to beat up to 4000 farmstock if the motor is in good shape well goodluck

So, where are you getting the pop up pistons? Are you boring it out? How much are you shaving the head or just polishing it? Thanks Sorry for all the questions

Aries can make the pistons. Mine is bored .125 over with head shaved all it would stand and polished, with ford pento double valve springs. Mine is stock stroke so we didn't gain much cubic inchs with just boring. We built a custom dual exhaust for mine as well. I would really like to see a 292 cu in M! Makes me want one lol :) I can pull 5000 on a hard dry track and do fair, not very competitve though. We changed first gear out of an MC and slowed it way down I have a 40 industrial that we just purchased to get the the slower final drive gears out of. But if you stroked the engine all the gear changing wouldn't be necessary.
