JD trans. problems

Has anyone out there in internet land ever had problems with 50 jd trans jumping out of gear. Or any similar jd's . Any help greatly appreciated. cc

Go to the extreme tractor parts website. There is a section I think is titled helpful hints or something like that. This section explains how to adjust the shifter detent for a B that jumps out of gear.

John Deer 50,s and B,s were know for that , because 3rd and 5th were very much used gears. Now 50 ta 60 years later it has become very much of a problem. Some times it is as simple as replacing the spring on the detent or the balls and or shifter rail it self. Not a really difficult job, even for a novice. As for installing a conjured up shifter lock, not on a tractor of mine.

Does the tractor do it in all gears or just one. Any older jd that i have worked on when they start to jump out of gear its because the gears are pushing them self apart because of a bad bearing in the end of it shaft.Or if the gear is not going all the way on the other gear only 1/4 or 1/2 the way because the fork are out of adjustment this also will make them jump apart.

I had a 50 that jumped out of the high low that shifts as you go threw neutral. Took shims out of the left side till all the bearings were tight. Also put in new detentes and springs.

I have a late B that jumps out of third gear only. Detents have stronger springs, shift forks were replaced with jd50 forks. All bearings have been replaced in trans also. The shift lever does not kick out of gear, the gears slide on the shaft. Someone told me it was the over drive shaft kicking out of gear. Any advise, out of ideas.
