JD 650 (Yanmar).

Just kidding.

Have to be my 1940 B.

Although I love the feel and sound of the R's, 80's, 820's and 830's.

I waited to find a 530 gas row crop, not because of the rarity of the 530 in general, but for power steering, HP, fuel economy, live power, a REAL 3pt hitch, and a comfortable seat. Those of you that grew up on 30's and 40's JD tractors can appreciate that. My dad has a 320, and I have a 435 that are both uncomfortable tractors to operate for anyone with long legs

I like them all for different reasons, but have been spoiled by late model compacts as they are so handy.

My 1941 AR. 830"s are not bad either. Want to drive yourself crazy just stand between two 830s pulling hard on dynos. Now THATS sterio.

anything with a B in the name...

39 B on factory flats
Unstyled B with rounds
wartime B is kind of like a hotrod with that quick 6th gear.

I always liked the fact that your wiring harness was the 2 plug wires!

They are all neat but the B just does it for me.

3 friends have converted V8 Fordsons and all agree that nothing, absolutely nothing, beats the sound of my 46A on a 'straight through' pipe. At the shows people just gather in a circle around her listening to the chuff-chuff and the occasion bang as the governor speeds things up a bit. She is one gorgeous tractor. The 47H, on the other hand, is totally different. Quiet like a sewing machine, starts first turn whatever the weather, and doesn't drink fuel like it's going out of fashion. They are quiet a sight parading around the ring. Long live JD's.

For fun I like my G and GW, but if I had to pick one to try to make money farming with it would have to be a 720 Diesel. The big 2 bangers really have character.

I'd have go with the D.............not because I currently own one but because it's the tractor that put bread on "many a table" in our country for many years, including mine...........

I do aspire to someday own one of the diesel 2 lungers though and possibly a 420/430! Finances permitting of course..............

John Deere "A" early styled (1940 to 1946) hand crank (not long hood) row crop. This is the standard like when you say Farmall you mean "M" or Ford you mean "8N" or Allis Chalmers you mean "WD".

This is a 1939 "A" kind of like the "A" I'm talking about. This "A" was in the parade at the McKnight memorial show in Trenton Tn. last Sat.

The only 2 cylinder I ever had was an H. I've always wanted an 830, but since this collector craze started, I can't afford one.

Our 44 A Handstart still earns its keep working. Nothing sounds better on the NH 477 Haybine, baling hay pulling a wagon behind the baler on our New Hampshire side-hill fields, or plowing in the meadow. Only problem is that it is a real gas guzzler, so I often use the 2010D. Our 31 GP comes in a close second, and it is a worker too.

1936 "D"
I grew up on it pulling a #44 plow, 2-16s. We still do some plowing with it. We always ran it on #1 fuel oil, and still do. We used to take it to some pulls but its hard to compete with a totally stock tractor against all the newer souped up stuff that pulls in the antique stock class. It sure draws a crowd whenever its running.
