JD40 steering gearbox

I have a 1955 model (late) JD40 I most likely need a steering gearbox for. Does anyone have a good used one available or know where I might find one?

The input shaft on mine is VERY worn due to the coupler cinch bolt coming loose that ties the steering shaft to the input shaft of the gearbox. Through the years since it was use with this being loose, the keyway and the OD on my steering gearbox input shaft is extremely worn. My coupler on the end of my steering shaft is worn as well. I can have them both repaired by a local machine shop but that will likely cost more than good used part is I can find them. Thanks for any leads.

If it were mine,
I would have the machine shop drill through the steering shaft and the worm shaft, and fit a 1/4" spring pin. That connection does not have to "take up" end play - only transmit torque.

A spring pin could be driven out should you need to disassemble it for radiator removal, etc.

That's sure not a bad idea and I'll consider it. I bought a 4" long coupler that is for a 3/4" shaft that is keyed all the way through. I was going to get my machinist to put my steering shaft in a lathe and remove the old shaft coupler. I could then weld one end of the coupler I bought to the steering shaft. Then I was going to remove my worm shaft for him to weld up and put a straight key slot in (it has a woodruff now I believe). Last, he would have to drill through both to put a spring pin as you say to keep the steering shaft from pulling off the worm shaft. Maybe I'm better off just drilling it as it is now. It might work just as well and will be much cheaper in terms of machining costs. Thanks for the suggestion.

Thanks. I had no idea these were made although Steiner's page does say they are out of stock. See my reply below to learn how I had considered fixing this. I already bought a $9 straight keyed coupler but it doesn't have the "split" cinch type bolt so I would have to drill a through hole into the coupler and shaft to insert a spring pin to keep the steering shaft coupler from pulling off the worm shaft.
