JD440 backhoe and loader

I can't identify which JD440 I have. It is a diesel engine, positive ground starting system, with a loader and backhoe. I've found Model 71, Series 3507 on a plate on the frame. Stamped on the frame is M4258T, and on the backhoe N12918U. Can anyone help? I need to know which kind to find the manual? In particular the hydraulic fluid needs changed and I don't know where the filter is. My email is [email protected]

The tractor serial number should be on the transmission. The hydraulic filter should be on the left side of the tractor underneath the cab. It will be a round cover with a 3/4 inch bolt in the middle. It also has a filter screen next to it which should be removed and cleaned, but be careful you will lose your hydraulic fluid. This cover should require a 1/2 breaker bar to remove. Google jd 4440 specs and you will see alot of basic information. Also you can purchase an owners manual, it will give you all the basics for routine maintenance.

Sounds like an old 2 cyl. to me ? And if so the hyd. filter is in the hyd. tank. You unbolt an access plate on top of the tank. I think there is a screen on the bottom and a weird cellouse ? type filter on top. At least that's the way ours was set up. It had an 831 loader on it. I think that 71 was the other earlier model loader. The main machine serial plate should be on the left hand side front of the clutch housing.

If it's like mine the hydraulic oil tank is the loader frame itself and the filter is inside the frame on the lower right side (passenger side) loader frame rail. It is not visible from outside. There is a cover underneath beside where a hydrualic line goes into the loader, take off the 4 bolts and the cover, and filter comes out,along with all of the hydrualic oil so have bucket ready. Hope this helps

The hydraulic tank is in the frame. When I get some time of work I'll check it out. I'll bet you're right!!

I was thinking crawler tractor at first. Yours is a 440 wheel tractor. that 71 is likely the loader # and the backhoe may have a tag left ? post a pic. from the rear and then maybe others will know better what it is.

It will take a little bit for me to get a picture with a view from the back. The numbers on the arm of the backhoe are N12918U with an S underneath.
