I looked at an old case tractor in an old barn last week and can't seem to figure out what it is. I don't have the sn handy but it didn't work out to any of the reference material I looked at. It has a wide front under the tractor. Solid cast front wheels, batter right ahead of the steering wheel, the exhaust and air cleaner come out of the side of the hood? It has spoked wheels with weights. The thing that set me off was the battery was right on top of the steering column so i am guessing it is a DC? ANyone know if this is the only case tractor that had the battery like this? ANy help would help me out greatly. I think I can get a good deal on it as well. IF it is a DC, were these good tractors? Thanks

The "D" and "DC-4" had wide fronts like you describe and the "D" series has the battery sitting like you describe. Go to the tractor photo's and do a search on Case DC and you should see one like it. Best thing to do is to get the serial number and this will tell you the model and also be able to determine the year of manufacture.

If the exhaust and air cleaner both come out the side of the hood, could it be an SC that someone moved the battery on?

The serial number started with a C I know. I'll have to check on the rest. I belive the grill was cast iron. It was broke out but a piece was still hanging on the bottom. He has a spare grill for it as well.

Ok I was wrong, the air cleaner comes out of the hood and it starts with a box under the hood, not a round can. Does this help clarify anything?
