John Deer A

I just purchased a 1937 JD A It had not been run for a long time. I changed oli and filter and got it to run, but it does not have any oil pressure. Can any one help. Thanks. Gerold

Gauge could be bad. Disconnect the line and start it and see if oil come outs then you know if the gauge is bad. If no oil pressure then you are looking at dropping the oil pump or checking the screen to see if it is plugged. You can also adjust the oil pressure. If you have no pressure I suggest you get a manuel and read up. Good luck

Did it have oil pressure before? If so, when you changed the oil filter, did you crank hard on the big nut on the bottom that holds the oil filter in? If so, you have to pull the WHOLE guts of the oiling system. You pulled the top of the can from the oil filter head. It is a #itch to fix!!!!!

Could also be the square block between the pump and the pump drive off the governor is broken. Its meant to break, if the tractor is turned over and there is ice in the sump.

the two cyl. tractors only had about 10-15psi. if you change the gauge get one that regesters that low. vertical two cyl. had higher pressure, about 30psi. good luck, d. coleman(48M&51B)

I put a new gauge in a John Deere D one time, fired the tractor up and had no oil pressure. I disconnected the gauge, started the tractor and had oil coming out of the line. Put forced air into the oil gauge and made the needle move. Hooked it back up, started the tractor, and had good oil pressure. The new gauge was stuck!

As Scott and William said. It more than likely the oil pump coupler is broken. remove the crankcase cover, follow the oil pump shaft up and feel if the coupler is there. They will break and fall into the crankcase. retrieve it and weld the 2 halves back together. You will need to loosen the bolts on the round plate that holds the gears in place. It is usually a 2 man job to install that coupler,1 to put the coupler on the shaft, the other to push the shaft up to engage the drive gear. You can put a couple of longer bolts in place of the short ones and keep the gears from falling all the way out. Install your coupler and then push the plate back up and tighten your bolts. You may need a gasket for that plate part# B246R.
