John Deere 1010

Hi Greenies,
I looked at a raggedy 1010 with loader and hoe attachments this morning. What vintage is a 1010. Good or bad? Thanks, VH

To answer your question, they were made from 1961 until 1965. If the gear shift is on the dash it is a 61 or 62 and if it is on the floor it is a 63, 64, or 65. I have had three of them and as long as they were gas burners they were pretty good tractors. Do not buy a diesel, unless you just want a show queen. Uncle bought one in 1962 and still has it.

Thanks to all who replied. I was gathering info for a friend of the BIL. This one may be a leverite, as in right where he found it. VH

Actually the first year for the 1010 was 1960.They had the dash shifter, pipe front axle,
throttle lever on the left side of the steering columb.Later ones had the shifter on the tranny,
cast front axles, throttle on the right side of the steering columb.

Started in 1960 (I have two from that first year).
Shifters in the dash. Crawlers are excellent
machines and in some ways, more durable then the
350s that followed them. Wheel tractors - not as
good. Use a mish-mosh of parts, lousy brakes, etc.
Still none are anywhere near as bad as many claim
on these forums. The diesel engines were not that
bad either IF used and cared for properly. Worst
part is the lack of parts and high prices.

According to JD serial # Publication ; There were no 1010 wheel tractors, called 1960 model yr. Serial # 10001 starts 61" model yr........... Only 1010 crawlers serial # 10001 starts 60" model yr.

Thanks all,
I ll try to post the "Rest of the story" later. I think they are going to try to crank it up this morning. VH

Probably the same thing they did with the 430 models. The ones built in 1958 were sold as 1959 models.JD only list the 430 models as 1959 and 1960 models. It has something to do with when john deere's production year started.I have a research paper from the two cylinder club that list my 1010 as a 1960 model.
