John Deere 1065 Running gear

Is this a 10 ton rated gear? I know of one that is in good shape with a decent Parker gravity box on it. It is a 250 bushel box. Just wondering if the wagon gear will hold up to the size of the box. I want something that is highway safe. Guy is asking for $750 obo. Thinking about buying it for pulling a distance of about 30 miles one way hauling shell corn to feed my calves. My current wagons are all to wore out to think about pulling that distance and bringing back a full load.

I would think it would do the job. I have two 200 bu. boxes on 963 gears and I don't have any problems. I pull them loaded on the highway 10 to 15 mile trips. It looks like a really good deal. Around here the gear alone will bring $750 to $900.00.

And that 963 gear is only rated at 5 ton with the 953 at 4 tons so how much overloaded are you? And that is at tractor speeds and includes the gear and bed so you are overloaded by 2 ton.

Pretty sure it is 10T. Neighbor had a couple new ones in the 70s under 16 foot hayracks. Way overkill for that load. They generally trail well. I have one with a 250 bu J&M box.

Could be memory is bad but I thought the 1065 was an 8 ton and the 1075 was 10 ton. Not a problem anyway, have seen many 1065 under 250-300 bu wagons and haven't heard of a problem.

I think you are correct; I have a 1065 Op manual here somewhere but can't put my hands on it. Anyhow, a legitimate 10 ton gear will have 8 bolt hubs, and a 1065 doesn't, IIRC.

I imagine a 1065 is rated close or the same as a 1065A which I have. It is rated at 7 ton with 11L-15 8-ply tires. It is under a Parker 2000 box with extensions and comfortably holds 250 bushels of corn (have had 280 on it). The wagon has lived for thirty years like this with no problems whatsoever. Wish I had half a dozen of them. Mike
