John Deere 1947 Model A

Still unable to remove governor shaft after
following 730-LP's advice posted 12-5-12. See shop
manual JD-4, page 23, Fig JD69. This is much like
my Gov. except weights are on the Drive Gear, and
not on the Fan Drive Pinion. See no obstruction,
but shaft will not come out. Help!

I remember this post. Do you have the governor off the tractor? If not, I think you should take the governor off the tractor, turn it up side down, remove two screws, and take out the vertile shaft. Once that is done the other shaft should come right out.

Removing the governor may be necessary, but I was advised otherwise when I first asked. I was hoping to remove the shaft without taking the tractor apart. If, as you say, the vertical shaft must come out to remove the horizontal-drive-shaft.....then so be it.

Please confirm, and thanks much.
