John Deere 235 tandem

I"m looking at an 18 foot John Deere 235 tandem plow. They are asking 3500$ for it but I"m concerned that my JD 7800 (150 HP) may not be enough.

Any thoughts on price or power, or any pros and cons on the 235?

Not sure.........are you talking about a disc? Had a 21'4" 235 tandem disc harrow (called a disc around 'here') way back when. Pulled it with a 4840......in our soils; probably could've handled another 3 ft. You'll handle it fine..........if this is what you're asking about.

Sorry, you are correct in that it is a disc plow (Cone shaped)

JD's website indicates 8-12HP per ft for a 637 disk harrow which is the lightest frame folding disk harrow JD builds today. Of course a 235 is too old to be on their website.

Assuming it is a disk harrow, no problem pulling it with 150 hp. Not JD's best effort; not a good leveling disk. Innovative design that has gang overlap thereby eliminating the center ridge, but it never met farmers expectations and JD eventually went back the standard configuration that everyone else uses. IH models 490 and 496 which were produced about the same time, are much better accepted. Most farmers also don't like cone blades, which pull harder. Although this model is somewhat too light duty, it and heavier JD disks of this vintage can easily be converted to a vertical tillage tool, which has significantly increased their value. So a few years ago $3500 would be way too much, but not necessarily true today.

I used to pull a 22ft 235 cone blade with a 4455 jd. It did ok but could have used a few more ponies.

you have enough hp, the traction is what is a major factor.4 wheel drive or duallys will help
