John Deere 335 round baler

On the 335 baler it has hydraulic tie, I can't seem to keep the baler closed when it gets full.
I was wondering which position should the valve be in when you are baling.

This baler is new to me.

I went on tractorhouse to see what kind of latch your baler has. None of the pictures showed it. On my New Holland The first thing the tailgate lift cylinder does when extending is unlatch the tailgate latch. When lowering the tailgate after the tailgate is closed you have to make sure you hold lever 2 seconds longer to assure the cylinder is completely contracted to enable the latches. Find your latches and follow the linkage to see what's going on.

SCV control handle should be placed in center(neutral) position after rear gate is closed. I searched 335 parts catalog & failed to locate a mechanical gate lock to help keep gate closed. I suggest to switch male tips locations in the female receptables

Do you have an Operator's manual for it? If not, you can download one for free from John Deere. Go to:

John Deere Ag Bookstore

Click on Equipment Publications. Enter 335 in the Model search Box. When you see 335 in the dropdown list that will appear click on it and it should give you equipment with 335 as the model number. There are three round baler choices, pick the one for the serial number range your baler falls in. Click on the operator's manual and you will see a download icon to the right of the title. Click the download icon and it will download to your device and you can save it to your device as a pdf file and print it, or parts of it, as you want.

I looked in one of the manuals and it says you need two sets of remotes to operate it (one for the gate and one for the twine arm). Or it mentions seeing your dealer about a selector valve if you only have one set of remotes. Which sounds like another name for a diverter valve. So, to answer your question we first need to know what you have for hydraulic remotes and if you only have one set of remotes do you have the selector (diverter) valve.

If you have two sets of remotes Tx Jim has you answer, for the position of the lever, for the gate remote control during baling and tying. If you are doing that, and the gate drifts open, it could be a bad gate cylinder packing leaking by internally or an issue in your tractor SCV.

This baler has two hydraulic hose hook-ups, it has a dual port block that controls the gate and the tie pivot arm. It has a rope /chain you pull to switch from gate to tie. I figured it out once you close the gate, you switch it to tie and it holds the gate shut. I will take your suggestion and download the manual.

Thank you for your replys

When the baler indicators indicate the bale is full, wrap with twine. If you keep going the baler becomes overfull and the gate will open with hydraulic oil bypassing thru the density valve allowing the gate to open. Keep the valve shifted to the twine wrap while baling. That should isolate the tractor hydraulics from the density hydraulics.

I guess I should have been clearer with my statement. Switch male tips from from one orifice to the other on the same breakaway coupler IE reverse which orifices closes/opens gate. Due to when you change position of control lever on manual valve on tongue gate remains closed I think tractor scv is leaking internally.

Thanks for info, this baler has no latch, I figured it out, it's new to me. It has a two way valve and when you close the gate you have to switch the valve to tie mode. It worked fine today.

Where is that valve? Please tell me you don't have to get off the tractor to switch for every bale unload.

Valve Farmaller is referring to is mounted on baler tongue installed as a factory installed option so baler can be operated on a tractor with only 1 rear scv. Operator needs to pull a rope to switch from tail gate circuit to twine tube control circuit. I think I'd opt for a Fasse multiplier vs JD engineers idea. https://partscatalog.deere.com/jdrc/sidebyside/equipment/62751/referrer/navigation/pgId/100752024

I had that same issue on my JD 510 Round Baler. I switched the remotes on the tractor for the specific actions and it works now.

A little behind, but I'll throw in my 2 cents worth. 335 baler does not have a latch on the gate, it is held closed by hydraulic pressure.

I have the 375 baler, the foot wider cousin to your baler and have hydraulic tie as well. My tractor only had one remote, so I opted for the summit hydraulic multiplier, it is has coils on actuators that is electrically switched between circuits.

I like this solution for two reasons, one it is just a flip of a switch and you don't have to tug on a rope two switch between operating the gate or the tie arm. Two, is because if your SCV is leaking by, you have the option to close that circuit with the multiplier and prevent it from leaking by. I keep the switch off on the multiplier so I don't have any leak by to the circuit for the gate and it keeps the gate closed to build hydraulic pressure against the relief valve and make a tight bale.
