john deere 40 utility

The tractors came equipped vith three point hitch.
They cost aboot $1,800.00 new. You can work out how much it has depreciated to find value.
Around here scrap iron is $180.00 a ton, it should bring $288.79

That is a nice machine for "utility"
work. I have a 420 Utility and it get stead use as my big green helper. Mine has 3pt, pto, and a loader on the front. I would be lost without it. The big difference between mine and yours is about 5 hp. Mine is a '56 all green model.

All 40's had a full and proper Cat I three point hitch from the factory unless they were an odd ball custom order.
Better than the Ford N series of the era as the 40 had live hydraulics.
The real cat's pajamas was the 420/430/440 with optional live pto.

Not enough info. Depends on condition of tractor and where you are. Also if it's a 40-w they only made that tractor one year, 1955. I think the total number 1760.

Harvey, whats the deal with that response? I dont understand. Do you think the guy wants to scrap his tractor? Or do you just not like his tractor? I guess honesty ruled out respect for his post. Yours is the best reply.

Mr. MeanJDK,

The man didn't provide any information aboot the tractor. How can anyone know vhat condition the machine is in with the info provided?

Thanks for your interest.

JD did not manufacture the model 40 in 1958. What is the serial number and we will narrow down a year for your tractor.

Getting information aboot the tractor is like pulling teeth.
If it's in original condition, then it must be like new from the show room.
As Mr. Buickanddeere said they didn't build the modle 40 in 1958.

Only years the 40 was built was 53, 54, and 55. If it is a utility 53 and 54 had a one piece screen grill and 55 had a 3 piece grill like a 420. I think the utility, crawler, and standard were the only ones with the 1 piece grill.

(quoted from post at 18:42:34 01/06/14) it has a one piece grill

The tractor has pretty good paint for it being all original. The tires are all original. I would just like to have a rough idea of what it is worth. The tractor has sat inside its whole life. [/b]
