john deere 4230 cab blower

I have a 4230 that had one of the cab blower motors go bad. I put in a new motor. Both motors are the 2 wire motors. I only have the low speed and no hi speed. The books show a resistor mounted on the right side of one of the motors and my dealer said that is the problem. I opened the roof everywhere and can not find the resistor. Could the resistor be built inside the blower switch? There is none on the outside of the switch. Any help?

Your parts guy is mixed up.

The older system with two blowers did NOT use a resistor. (The newer system used on later tractors and replacement cabs for older tractors with ONE blower did.)

You may have a bad circuit breaker, a wiring/ground problem or a bad fan switch. (The switch connects the motors in SERIES for "low" and PARALLEL for "high".)

That's right Bob, a lot of 'good' blower motors get tossed because of a bad switch, the new replacement 'stack' switches are ornery for a novice to figure out. Most parts guys weren't even born yet when those early 30's came out. I have always thought that a new parts guy should do a 'tour of duty' in the shop before starting at the counter.

Thanks Bob. Once you told me about the parallel and series, that made sense. I had 2 wires reversed. Very hard to figure out. I never thought about using the resistance of the motors them selfs to get the resistance to run them on the slow speed. Thanks a bunch. Gust like most of the time, the mechanic at the dealer didn,t know what he was talking about. Guess he gust thought I would pay him to fix it. WRONG

yes this is a mess can you help me with the same problem. why cant they just make the same switch? mine had worked for 38 years. what was wrong with that design?
