John Deere 730D smoking

My Dad's 730D ES had not been run in 10 years. We have it running and it has a problem smoking. When you increase the trottle it sends out a large amount of smoke and periodically will puff smoke during a drive. What could be causing this? Where do I start? My son did check and get the injector pump adjusted for proper pressures. Thanks for any help.

Dad thought it had a weird noise, but could not tell me what or where. All fluids were changed and fuel drained and new installed.

I would say it is a very light blueish, not just white. It is definately not black and we have not worked it at all since starting, that could be when you sometimes used to see black. But that was years ago with a 13ft. tandem in the hills.

what do you expect, it sat for 10 years. put new fuel in it, change the oil, then go heat it up! Go plow or disc for hour or two. good luck. or sell it to me for 2500 bucks.lol

Blue can be blow-by through worn piston rings, but sometimes in a diesel it can be unburnt fuel.

Might want to have the injectors cleaned.

It is quite common if a tractor has sat for ten years that the piston rings are stuck in the groovs, a good heavy duty oil meant for diesel engines and a few hours of hard work will probably clean up the rings and it will stop smoking. Been there and done that.-----Harold
