What are some cheap ways to add horsepower to john deere 730d? May only bore it .90 over because I would like to farm with it. What kind of horsepower could i expect?

90 over if the cylinder walls are already round and true. Won't make a bit of difference.
Put it on a dyno and find out if the governor is responding and opening the racks. Some time ago I posted some dyno tests here that showed poorly calibrated tractors.
First three factors to work on before souping for HP is #1 traction, #2 traction and #3 traction.

Your cheapest options are to clean out you intake system and polish it up with some sandpaper. Trade in your oilbath for a dry paper filter. This will help get more air in.

Turn up your fuel rack setting all the way.

The big JD diesels love rpm's. If you are allowed to go that high, crank her up to about 1500 RPM.

If you want to go further, pull the head off. Get a good valve job. Port and shape the intake runners. Gasket match the head and manifolds to each other. Install larger intake valves.

Tractor pulling is about the whole package. A good set of rubber is a must. Pick the proper gear to use your power, but not run out. And work on hitch adjustments and weight placement to get your balance right. With poor hitch and balance, a tractor with 15 less HP will beat you up.

F-- Your traction! You can have all the traction in the world! But if you don't have the motor, what the h-ll good is it???? Answer THAT???

then you dont run a fast gear. sounds like he will be pulling a stock class, so at most he is gonna be in 2nd gear. Traction is the main factor in pulling, and balance. I have seen many a tractor with 100 or more hp get beat by a 50 or 60 hp tractor due to that very thing.

Well I've seen 50 horse tractors fall on their face at 50 foot because they have traction and no motor. What’s the difference? Nine times out of ten the operator needs to get their tractor figured out. I do agree that you can also have too much motor and over power your tires. That's where the operator needs to get his weight properly placed (balance) and maybe work the throttle and not use all the motor.

They simply chose the WRONG gear. I have outpulled 150 hp experienced pullers several times with my 50hp. They went in fast fast gears & never ran out of power. I went in first & eventually ran out but I never spun. Buick is right. Traction is #1,2,&3. & that starts with balance. When you can kill it dead in first gear then you can look at more power & second gear.

Lets see........A 6 mph 100HP tractor with 4000lbs drawbar pull in the 6500lb class Vs. A 3mph 50 HP tractor with 5000lbs drawbar pull in the 6500lb class.
I'll bet on the tractor with more traction.
Goose the throttle lever all you want on the 100HP tractor if that makes you feel good.
